Spot your plants: Green Hub and Urban Gardening/Farming Fair at SM City San Mateo and SM Center Angono

The fascination for plants definitely boomed and bloomed in this pandemic. All of a sudden, almost everyone’s plant collection has grown exponentially. Even scientific names of each plant are now colloquial terms to plant moms and dads. Most plant enthusiasts now are wary about the right combination of soil, light, watering for particular plants that they have. SM Supermalls got plantitas and plantitos covered by bringing a hassle-free plant shopping at the malls with Green Hub and Urban Gardening Farming Fair at SM City San Mateo and SM Center Angono

Lush greens whelm the Green Hub of SM City San Mateo located at the mall’s 2nd level. Plants of different varieties are available to complete every plantita or plantito’s collection. Crafty Seeds brings succulents, palms, lucky bamboos, succulents, vines, flowering plants even herbs.

Rizal Cactus and Succulents fills SM Center Angono’s Urban Gardening/Farming Exhibit with beautiful and stable cacti succulents, rubber trees, even Hoyas. They also conduct free lectures on how to graft cacti, propagation and proper care of house plants. SM tenants like Ace Hardware and Japan Home Center also offer their gardening materials for a complete plant shopping experience.

Long known for its health and environmental benefits, biking has since emerged as a choice way to commute during the recent pandemic.

With bicycles becoming more widely used, SM Supermalls through SM Cares is creating bike-friendly infrastructures and facilities to give the growing number of bike commuters and enthusiasts a safe, convenient, and enjoyable experience.

The Bike-Friendly SM initiative will roll out at the SM Mall of Asia this September, and across all SM malls nationwide in the coming months.

“By transforming our malls into bike-friendly establishments, we hope to support inclusive and safe mobility, and promote a culture of cycling, “says SM Engineering, Design, and Development President Hans Sy Jr. who conceptualized and spearheads the project. “It is part of a comprehensive plan to make communities where SM malls are located, more inclusive, livable, and sustainable.”

The SM Mall of Asia (MOA) is leading the way with bicycle lanes in the MOA Complex complete with bike-centric street signs. In addition, SM will enhance its bike parking capacity, install repair stations, a helmet depository, and bike supply and refreshment stations.

“We have designed our bike facilities to be enjoyed by all members of the community across all ages and biking abilities, whether it be for utilitarian or recreational purposes”. Sy added, “SM hopes that this will encourage more people to take up biking as a healthy and environment-friendly mode of transportation”.

Through this initiative, SM will build a connected network of bike lanes on all roads in the MOA Complex stretching up to 18 kilometers, including a dedicated bike lane along J.W Diokno Boulevard. Future plans consist of connecting SM’s network of bicycle lanes to major roads in the metro.

Likewise, clearly visible bike-centric road signs will also be installed to provide riders and motorists with easy and orderly routing within the Complex. SM’s road signage is based on NACTO (National Association of City Transportation Officials) US Standards implemented by member cities such as Boston, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, DC.

Here’s what cycling enthusiasts can look forward to as SM goes bike-friendly:

  • Convenient, safe, and accessible bicycle parking. SM will ramp up its bike parking capacity in MOA by fifty percent, with additional bike racks and new street-level bike parking zones steps away from mall and shop entrances.
  • Bike Repair Stations will be placed in strategic locations to assist the pedaling public for their emergencies and maintenance. Each Repair Station is equipped with a bike stand, floor pump, and essential tools that customers can also use for free.
  • A Helmet Depository for a worry-free, end-of-ride experience. Bikers can simply leave their helmets at no cost at the Helmet Depository located at Ocean Drive for their trips to the mall.
  • · Bike Vendo Machines carrying ride essentials such as bike tubes, lights/blinkers, bike locks, repair kits, tire patch kits, hand wipes, ponchos, gloves, and multitools. A separate vending machine for hydration and energy snacks will also be available. A Seaside Bike Kiosk offering a wider range of accessories and gear will be available for sale.

In addition to bike infrastructure, SM will spearhead information sessions on road safety, first aid, basic bike repair, and biker and motorist etiquette in partnership with biking communities.

With the Bike-Friendly SM initiative, customers can now look forward to a safe, convenient, and enjoyable riding experience. The project is also one of the highlights of SM’s Green Movement campaign promoting environment-friendly initiatives for sustainable communities.

Surviving Quarantine Life with Farming and Backyard Gardening

Two SM Foundation Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Program graduates in Antipolo City tell their stories

Edgar Moreno works on his pechay farm in Boso-Boso prior community quarantine implementation

Boso-Boso is an outskirt of the City of Antipolo in Rizal. It is a growing rural community with farm lands at the foot of the Sierra Madre Mountains. Residents in the community were beneficiaries of the SM Foundation Kabalikat Sa Kabuhayan program in February to May of 2016.

One of the beneficiaries is Edgar Moreno, a resident of Boso-Boso and owns a vegetable farm within the community. Prior to his KSK training, he always had challenges in keeping his crops and produce healthy. After three months of weekly trainings, Edgar effectively applied his learning on his own farm. He has then grown his produce to several hundreds of kilos even a ton of vegetables. For the past four years, he has been supplying fresh vegetables to several markets in Marikina, Pateros and Pasig.

My Shopping Box - US to PH Courier Service Review

My Shopping Box Tracking

You may able to find another forwarder from the US to PH here on my blog and this time, I'll be trying out My Shopping Box (MSB). MSB is a forwarder that provides an EU / US address, wherein you can use that address to shop to different sites such as Amazon and Sephora, have it shipped to your designated address, and forward it to your PH address.

If you're a new user and looking for a referral code, feel free to use My Shopping Box referral code: CANGKWVE

MSB AIR: I have tried their AIR service last July 2020. Paid July 27 and arrived on August 7 = it took 10 business days to be delivered to my PH address.

MSB SEA: Instead of AIR service which costs twice - 47.92 USD, let me try their SEA service which only cost me 23.92 USD which already paid today August 24, 2020.

Payments: MSB accepts most major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. I used Mastercard for this transaction

Let me show you what's inside my incoming package as displayed on the MSB site - 2 boxes from Sephora full of goodies @.@

As of writing, My Shopping Box confirmed that they do not consolidate boxes, so there's 2 spacious boxes with small items inside, the courier will get the weight of the box either volumetric or chargeable weight.

  • Fast notification on-site/email for a received parcel. On Sephora Site, it was delivered August 17, it was uploaded on the MSB website on August 20 (3 days).
  • Consolidation. Sound expensive for several incoming packages.
  • Pricing per box measurement not per item. small item vs huge box?

ONGOING POST. Hope to get my box soon and update more details here! If you have questions, let me know :)
