Pityriasis Rosea Journey: My December in Red and Green

This post contains graphic images of an affected skin with several red bumpy rash.

Disclaimer: I bought all products mentioned here. RIP 13th Month Pay.

Decembre 2015, we all have our holiday celebration, parties, and a lot of events. If you know me personally, you'd know how I'm so vain about my skin, how I love to maintain a good hygiene and prepare my skin whenever I'll be having an upcoming event. And I'm surprised that one day I got several rashes. I was able to attend some of them and skip the others because of the rashes I got.
November 30, 2015
I noticed little rashes nearby my shoulder and chest area. I didn't mind the rash, the first thing that comes to my mind that it was like a heat rash only (in December?)

In just 1 week, it spread so fast over my body like this.
I wondered what product I tried: food, supplement, soap, body wash, or something else. I felt alarmed when I noticed that it spread out all over my body. It's very itchy, and yet I can't stop scratching them. It feels like Chicken Pox but it's not.

I can't wait to see a Derma check my current condition. I'm glad that my employer's current health care provider which is Philcare covers Derma consultation. I went to DLS-STI Megaclinic, the doctor checked my arms and told me it was somehow close to chicken pox and advised me to try HER Betamethasone Topical Cream and take Cetirizine to relieve itchiness. If it would still spread, go back for the next consultation.
Seryoso? Hanggang saan aabot ng P300 mo?
Feedback: Yes it does relieve itch - effect good in less than 30 mins.
Betamethasone Cream 10g for P300? For a 5'3 ft person like me suffering this almost whole body itch? It's actually cheaper when I bought it from the Derma doctor, its 5g for P299 when I checked it at Watson's.

I searched different websites for my condition - without knowing what it was really called. I can't take to stare longer at other skin condition since they got a severe condition than what I had.

I went for a second opinion with a Derma Doctor on Philcare Makati Clinic. She asked me to take off my clothes except my innerwear. She told me it was a severe case already and it happened to be I'm 1 of 1000 who's unlucky to have this viral disease called: Pityriasis Rosea.

Pityriasis Rosea appears to grow oriented with the skin lines resembling a pine tree figure. Treatment may help relieve the symptoms. However, there's no medication that would heal the rash in an overnight basis. It would stay normally for 8 to 14 weeks and goes off on its own.

She prescribed me a Tricort Scalp Lotion, Nutraderm Lotion and continue with Cetirizine. I had to mix 25ml of Tricort and 125ml of Nutraderm lotion. I find the mixture much better than the Betamethasone cream since Tricort-Nutraderm Mix relieves itch for about 3 hours for me.

I'm glad I already know about my condition. I googled about it and felt somewhat depressed.
Sobrang nakaka depressed. Some people suffering from this condition for almost 3 months, 6, or even more than a year.
I bought different goods I researched that may help the current condition
  • Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lotion
  • EC Healing Oil
  • EC 27 Guava Plus Organic Soap
  • Cetaphil Cleansing Bar
I had my UV Session with our Mr. Sun to help it dry out bumps. Maximum of 30 minutes a day. I usually go to our rooftop every morning.
See how fast it spread?

December 16, 2015
The night before 16th, I just informed some of my cousins about my current condition. I really felt depressed. It's been half a month and I'm not getting any better. They asked me to try "MAGPATAWAS". I agree to see their referred Albularyo by 16th. He did his ritual and explained what happened to me. It might be possible I accidentally sweep them or their house while cleaning or something similar to that. He made his prayer & let me apply oil. He advised me to incense the house and ask for forgiveness AND apply Malunggay paste all over  to my skin.

The afternoon of 16th, we gather malunggay leaves and juice it. Cotton gauze or birdseye cloth are both not available so I used the paste itself and spread it all over my body.
  • I applied Malunggay paste twice a day after I take a bath.
  • I skip Chicken, Fish, Seafood, Egg and other dairy foods
  • I skip activities that would make me sweat
  • Preferred soaps to use: Tender Care, Perla White, Cetaphil
  • I drink lots of water
  • I prefer to wear dress - we call them Daster, much comfortable, it's really hard to wear brassiere during those weeks I had my skin infection.
  • I took few days of sick leave just to let the itchiness subside and application of medicine as well, I cannot wear fit clothes anymore or something that can touch the skin for a long time and may cause friction
  • Glad to have some disposable panties from Daiso. 5pcs for Php 88, Malunggay paste stained my clothes really bad.
December 18, 2015 onwards
Application of Malunggay Paste continued as well as taking my UV sessions every morning. It really helped my skin regenerate and heal the bumps. To tell you guys, sleeping with the malunggay paste is fine, I can smell myself like a living veggie! I have several scars till now and I'm happy about it. It's not as itchy as before. I can tolerate a sports bra now - I skip bra with plastic parts and wired ones.
December 28, 2015
I am almost healed. only few scars left and several carbuncles appeared and I'm applying Betadine after I clean the affected areas. I'm glad it really improved a lot. I'm thankful to all prayers from friends and family who knew my situation, most specially to my mother who didn't give up applying the Malunggay paste all over my body and even ask for the leaves during those rainy days of December 2015.

I'm writing this post, thinking I might be able to help someone having the same condition as what I experienced. There's a limited source of information about this skin infection. Either it's called Pityriasis Rosea by the Dermatologist or associated with our white dwarves, we should all be careful and boost the immune system.

May this new year all your dreams turn into reality and all your efforts into great achievements.
Happy New Year to everyone!

  1. Wow! Ang galing ng malunggay leaves! Pagaling kayo Miss Glenda! ๐Ÿ˜Š
    Happy New Year!

    1. Thank you Elle hopefully very soon! Take care :)

  2. Oh no, that's awful. :( I'm glad you're getting better though!

  3. Ang hirap naman nyan hope you are doing ok na.

  4. Glad you are okay na sis. Ako naman I had this "skin asthma" daw started way 2006 pa, it is not severe like yours but until now nagkakaroon pa din ako pa isa isa. Its like bumps with water inside and super itchy. It came to the point that I have to take steriods just to heal those bumps. Then you have to change all your soaps to hypoallergenics and watch your diet. Hay depressing talaga.

  7. I'm having this too for 4 weeks now, i'm not quite sure if it is pityriasis but it really looks like this! I'm 18 yr/old and working student and it's kinda embarassing when i'm having a conversation on my costumers. It attacks also my face so it's really strange. Mama reffered me also on faith healer and they said "nakapasakit" and "may halong inggit".
I changed my soap na ng tender care, and taking cetirizine. I'm worried kasi sunod sunod defense namin and I don't want these rashes will show on my graduation pic๐Ÿ˜ญ
